About Trilochan Netralaya

Established in 2008 under the Vision India Foundation, Trilochan Netralaya aims to provide subsidized and free comprehensive eye care to indigenous families in western Odisha and neighboring Chhattisgarh.

Located in a predominantly tribal and economically challenged region, the hospital addresses the eye care needs of communities reliant on monsoon agriculture, forest products, and casual labor.

Serving over 10 million people across 14 districts, Trilochan Netralaya stands as the largest community eye care provider in Odisha.

Based in Sambalpur, Trilochan Netralaya provides eye care services to the surrounding districts through city clinics in five districts and twelve Vision Centres.

More than half of the population in this region consists of adivasi, or indigenous, tribal communities. The majority of these adivasis are small-scale and marginal farmers or landless agricultural laborers.

They typically own little to no land, have limited knowledge of and access to modern innovations and technology, and face significant barriers to obtaining capital or credit. With virtually no bargaining power, most of them live below the poverty line, making it nearly impossible for them to afford cataract surgeries, which often results in blindness.

Comprehensive Ophthalmic Services

Trilochan Netralaya offers a wide range of eye care services, including:

  • Cataract Surgeries: Utilizing advanced phacoemulsification techniques to restore vision.

  • Refractive and Corneal Surgeries: Addressing vision correction and corneal disorders.

  • Oculoplasty: Specialized procedures for eye-related plastic surgeries.

  • Pediatric Ophthalmology: Dedicated care for children’s eye health.

  • Strabismus Treatment: Correcting misalignment of the eyes.

  • Glaucoma Management: Early detection and treatment to prevent optic nerve damage.

  • Vitreo-Retina Services: Managing retinal and vitreous disorders.

  • Low Vision Aids: Assisting patients with significant vision impairment.

The hospital’s outreach programs encompass school screenings, elderly eye care, educational initiatives, and community health services. Since its inception, Trilochan Netralaya has provided preventable blindness care to over 10 million rural residents.
